Territory and environment

()

With a total area of 2,586 km2, Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in Europe. The Grand Duchy is located between Belgium, Germany and France. The two dominant natural regions are Oesling in the north, with its hill chains cut by river valleys, forming part of the Ardennes massif, and Gutland in the south, an undulating plain.

A third of the territory is covered by forests and half of it is used for farming purposes, of which about 1% is used for viticulture. The diversity of landscapes gives Luxembourg its charm, and the numerous green areas have recreational and touristic character.
