In 2010 the population of Luxembourg went over 500,000 inhabitants. In 30 years, the resident population has increased by nearly 140,000 people. Compared to its neighbouring or nearby countries, this demographic growth is rather exceptional. It is due to immigration. Since 1983, internal employment has always been on the increase. This increase basically comes from the significant supply of cross-border workers who occupy about 45% of jobs in Luxembourg. Unemployment, which has been marginal for a long time, has gone up a lot since 2002.
